How To Start And Build Your BLOG

Starting and Building a Blog takes a lot of time and patience, but can be very rewarding.  If you are ready to Start your Blog, I will give you step by step instructions on starting, building, and maintaining your Blog.

The first step in Starting a Blog is to make sure you are ready for the commitment, because it takes time to build and maintain.  You need to be committed to spending at least an hour a day to Building Your Blog.  If you are not ready to commit at least an hour a day, I would suggest that you do not even start.  The reason I say a minimum of an hour a day is because you will have to write posts on a regular basis and it takes time to write quality posts.  You have to work on the Layout of your Blog and this takes time.  You have to promote your Blog if you want it to be successful, and this takes a LOT of time.  If you just want to Blog for fun, you can get by with minimal time efforts, but I am going to show you how to make Money with your Blog.

If you are still reading, I know you are committed to Starting Your Blog.  The next step, after you have committed to starting your blog is to decide on your topic and name.  This is a process that takes much time and consideration.  First off, what are your interests or are you very knowledgeable about a specific subject?  This is going to be a subject that you are going to spend time with, so pick wisely.  Do you love dogs and want to Blog about different breeds of dogs?  Are you a beautician and want to Blog about hairstyles, cuts, and colors?  The subject matter of your Blog is very important because it all starts here.  Niche Blogging is the most profitable, so the more specific and narrow your subject, the better.  A Blog about cars may be harder to work with than a Blog about Corvettes or a specific type of car.  This will help you later on when I show you how to reach advertisers because Niche subjects are desirable and will also help you rank better on specific keywords which we will go over later as well.

Now we are ready to start building your Blog.  You should now have a subject, it is time to come up with your Blog Address that will point to your pages.  If you are new to Blogging, I suggest Blogger.com because in my opinion is the easiest to work with.  You will go to Blogger.com and create your account.  When it asks for Blog name, come up with a name similar to what your subject matter is about.  For instance, if your subject is Dog Training, make it the Dog Training Blog.  You can get fancy if you prefer, but it is better to keep it simple.  For the blogger address, you can type some words in to see if the blogger address is available.  Try to have your address terms similar to your theme if available.  dogtraining....or some derivative of the term.  It will be hard to find some terms as there are so many already taken, but your address should be on target with your subject and it will be .blogspot.com  This is a free service so you will not have a .com name unless you were to purchase one to use with your Blog.  You can purchase a name and use your own hosting, but for simplicity sake for starting your blog, stick with Google's Blogger Ext. of .blogspot.com

When First Starting Your Blog, after you have picked a Blog Title, Blog Address, you need to pick a Blogger Template to use with your Blog.  This is not a super important step as you can change the Template after you have started.  My advice is to click on one of the first  templates you see to continue because we have to see what our needs are before we can truely pick a template that is going to work for us.  After you pick a Template, you will be taken to the Blogger Dashboard.  At this point, I will tell you to click on the little pencil at the top that says new post.  It is best to go ahead and write a couple of posts before you try changing anything.  When writing your post, put a title for the post that is informative and could be terms that someone would search for in Google to get to your page.  Like the title to this page, How To Start And Build Your Blog.  Now, start writing about your subject and stay on focus, make it as narrow as possible.  Once you have written your post, click on "publish" at the top.  You have now Started Your Blog!  Here is the key, come back everyday and write another post and publish.  Do not try and change anything with your blog at this point, just get some posts up and going.  Write for at least 30 days before you even worry about making changes to your Blog.

So, if you want to make money without paying anything, get started today and write an article a day and you will see results after about 6 months. Remember, Content is King!

Technorati And Blog Search Engine Optimization

If you have a Blog and want to rank high in the Search Engines, Technorati is a must. Technorati is a social collaboration of blogs with tags.

It is very easy. Go to Technorati.com and sign up, enter your blog in their directory and pick the terms (keywords) you think someone will type in to find your blog. Technorati is important because it is a very popular site and ranks very well in the search engines and has a great Alexa rank.

Adding Google Adsense To Your Blog

The first thing I would suggest when adding Google Adsense to your blog is to wait until you have some posts under your belt. What I mean by this, do not put Google Adsense on your blog immediately thinking you are going to make big bucks.

Google Adsense takes a look at your blog and puts ads that are relevant to your content. If you put Adsense on immediately, there is not enough content to put ads to match your content. Second, there are some other things we will discuss later that you want to add to your blog. Many sites, such as Blogflux, will look at your blog as an advertising site and not allow nice features that you need!

Take your time when starting out. Concentrate on posting quality content and worry about making money down the road. If your blog is new, you dont have the traffic needed to make money with Adsense anyway. I dont mean to rant, but trying to keep you from falling in the pits I fell in when beginning.

Picking A Blog Template

Once you have chosen your name and description, you will be given a choice of several Blog Templates. do not stress out over this task as it is easy to change templates at a later date if you are not happy with the one chosen.

Pick a Template and start writing a few posts just to get the hang of it. After you have written a few posts, you can view blog to see what it is going to look like. At this time, you can arrange some elements by dragging your elements under (Template-Page elements). You can also click on (Template-Fonts, Colors) to change colors of different sections of your Blog. This is actually the fun part, be Creative! You can always change it later, so have fun and see how it looks.

You can also click on (Add Page Element) and see a list of well defined elements that you can add to your blog. You can always check the help section of Blogger for questions you may have, or drop me a question in the comment field. I will be more than happy to help anyone out! I am not an expert by far, but will help you find the answer if I dont know. Experiment around a little and I will return with a little more advanced tips.

Whats In A BLOG Name?

The next step when starting your creation of a Blog is coming up with a name or Title for your Blog. I use Blogger, and after you first create your name, you cannot change it. Therefor, you want a name that tells what your blog is about.

For instance when I started this blog, I wanted to discuss ways to make money blogging online. I named the blog MAKE MONEY ONLINE; Search Engine Marketing. After you create your title, you have to create a address. This can be a little more difficult as many are already taken. I named this one Money-Net.blogspot.com because many money names were taken.

The next step will to create your description of your blog. This is also important as this is what will show in the search engines when your blog is displayed. For Instance, Mine will look like this.

This is some of the key steps in creating a blog because it will impact everything that happens from here on out. And, most of this information cannot be changed once it is set up. Think this out before proceeding. I will return with more tips to create a popular blog.

I suggest you do some research when picking your Blog's name. After you have an idea of what your Blog's name will be, do some online searches for similar names. Niche, or narrow ideas are the Best Blog's. The more specific your focus is, the more popular it has a chance of becoming. Think about it, if I have a clothing Blog, my focus is going to be all over the place, whereas, if I were to Blog about a specific name brand jean, I would have a more targeted visitor base thus making it much easier to monetize.

Work From Home Blogging

There is a growing trend to Blog. Whether it is blogging about your pet, or about your job, or just keeping an online journal. You can share your blog with the world or you can keep it private for only a select few to view.

Do a Google search on BLOG and you will get a result of 1,040,000,000 results! Yes, that is correct at the time of this post. The reason everyone is blogging is because of the ease of use. You can edit, arrange, move, or delete your elements with the new blogger which has to be one of the easiest to use.

In the next upcoming posts, I will give some ideas for anyone starting a blog, or for those who are trying to take their blog to the next level. If you are just now starting or thinking of starting a blog, choose a topic you are interested in. Brainstorm is your first step to starting a blog. Write a topic on paper and jot some ideas you have, almost like arranging a glossary of topics for your blog. Do not proceed until you are comfortable with this step. Make sure it is a topic that you are comfortable writing about on a daily basis.

New Blogger Released

I know the new blogger has been released for a little while now, but was letting them get the kinks out before switching over. I recently switched and was amazed by the ease of use, variety of options, functionallity, and nice layouts.

If you blog and have not switched to the new blogger, you may consider switching. Before you do, you may want to save a copy of your old template so that it will be easier to modify your new template. Blogger keeps your old copy, but it may be easier to save your template on your hard-drive for easy access. the main reason for this is the fact that you will loose most all of your links in your sidebar and all modifications, but they are easy to add back.

I have self taught myself on html and consider myself to be a novice, but the new blogger functions allow you to set up a blog without any technical knowledge of html or any other codes. Hopefully most of the bugs are worked out, but I am sure there will be some that will pop up as time goes on.
